This document provides an overview of the review process for technical manuscripts, including the different stages of review, how to prepare for them, and how to navigate and interpret the review report. It is intended to help authors, Development Editors (DEs), and Acquisitions Editors (AEs) effectively manage and benefit from the review process.
Overview of the review process
During the development of your book, it will undergo three main rounds of review by external reviewers, known as the 1P, 2P, and 3P Reviews. These reviews are designed to provide feedback at different stages of the manuscript:
- 1P Review: Conducted after the first third of the book is complete.
- 2P Review: Conducted after two-thirds of the book is complete.
- 3P Review: Conducted when the manuscript is complete.
The number and timing of reviews may vary depending on the needs of your book. The DE and AE will work with you to select a diverse and appropriate group of reviewers for each stage.
