This book would not exist without the many people who shaped my thinking about identity and authorization over the past 25 years. The Internet Identity Workshop has been my intellectual home for over 20 years. Doc Searls and Kaliya Young co-founded IIW with me, and their vision and energy have sustained it through 42 events and counting. Heidi Saul has produced IIW with remarkable care and dedication. The broader IIW community, too numerous to name, has challenged, inspired, and refined my thinking on identity and authorization at every gathering. Many of the ideas in this book were first sketched on whiteboards during IIW sessions.
