Appendix G. Chapter Exercises
These exercises are meant to be used four different ways, and you should feel free to mix them. As review material, work the Beginner and Intermediate items for a chapter right after you finish it to confirm the ideas stuck. For self-study, treat the Advanced and Challenge items as small projects that turn a chapter into a portfolio piece. In a classroom or reading group, the Theory and Critical-thinking items make good discussion prompts, and the items marked for group work are written to spark debate rather than to have one right answer. As research preparation, the Challenge items and the cross-chapter capstone at the end are deliberately open-ended and mirror the kind of scoping, reading, and critical appraisal that real projects demand.
