Part 1. Design basics

In the opening part, I set the stage for the rest of the book and introduce design principles that are essential to understand before you start the visual design phase of a project.

In chapter 1, I establish the purpose of this book and why it’s beneficial to you as a developer to understand design fundamentals. Chapter 2 creates the book’s foundation and the design principles we will explore. Every principle discussed in this chapter is vital for understanding how to establish relationships among pieces of content, which are introduced in part 2. These principles can be applied to all visual elements, which we will do in part 3. The more comfortable you get with design principles, the more radically you can apply these principles to create even more standout designs. By the end of this part, you’ll be ready to start the user experience phase of the design cycle.
