Part 2. User experience

This part of the book delves into the user experience portion of a project. It’s essential to understand the user experience before starting the visual design phase. This phase covers more than just the user experience design phase and involves researching competitors, conducting user research and interviews, establishing who your audience is, and deciding what content should be prioritized when organizing content on a page.

Chapter 3 gives a high-level overview of what user experience encompasses, including the different roles specific to the user experience you could find in a larger company. In smaller companies, these roles are frequently combined into one or two positions but generally reflect the different parts of the user experience phase.

Chapter 4 is about the different types of user research that can happen in a project that shape the direction of a product or experience. The list of research activities is by no means exhaustive but covers some of the most common types that scale if you’re working alone or with a small team.
