Part 4. After visual design

Now that we’ve conquered the fundamentals of design and built a website, we will consider whether our design is good enough to hand off to development and how we can be sure it’s ready. And once we reach the development stage, we will consider how our development choices affect the user experience. The design cycle doesn’t just end with our mock-up: development is part of the cycle.

Chapter 11 re-introduces more user experience fundamentals and the iteration of the design cycle. It provides guidance on when a design is good enough to test, considers a few of the most common types of testing, and discusses how to apply the results from the test.

Finally, we close with chapter 12, where your expertise comes in with web development. Web development is the technical design of your visual design. It is a crucial part of the user experience. It’s where users finally get to interact with your website. If you plan to make continuous updates, it’s the start of a new cycle. You can now head back to the research stage to validate that the design is meeting the requirements and start the next iteration of the design.
