Chapter 10. The next step: getting up and running

This chapter covers

  • Identifying the role of psychological concepts in UX design
  • Choosing the right principle(s) for your design
  • Using common UX research methods
  • Measuring the impact of incorporating psychology into your design

We’ve covered a lot of information in this book. This chapter discusses incorporating concepts from the book into your design process. Your understanding of psychology will help reduce the noise distracting you from focusing on effective design components. Your knowledge of how to account for psychological principles will ensure you design interactions that allow you to meet your goals.

You’re probably aware that when thinking about the design process as a whole, you have to take a lot of factors into account. I’ve mentioned a number of things not covered in depth in this book—particularly research—that are critical for successful design. This chapter clarifies any outstanding questions on how the psychological principles fit into the process. I’ll also cover what methods researchers use to gather data, in conjunction with the knowledge we have from psychology, to effectively design for the human mind.
