A great big thank you for purchasing the MEAP edition of Designing Microservices! I was hoping someone would buy this book and I’m glad it’s you.

Speaking of which, you might notice that this book is playful in tone. I think there is nothing wrong with having fun and playing around, even when we are dealing with big ideas. If you don’t agree, please just do what my wife does: frown when you see an attempted joke, and move on.

This book is meant for people who are passionate about software design and want to think about how to design microservices right. You might be a hands-on programmer, or someone who wants to make sure that what your team builds a good reusable solution. Or you may be someone who wants to see what all the hype about microservices is about, and understand the tradeoffs your software designers are making. It will help if you are familiar with the basic concepts of software design, but we will also explain them through the book. Programmers, architects, business analysts, and managers, can all get value from this book.
