Now that we’ve covered general questions that can be asked for many different kinds of roles, we’re going to look at questions for some common job functions. We’ll cover senior leadership, operations, sales, marketing, finance, IT, and human resources (HR).
For each of these areas, we’ll first cover what you should “be sure to sell.” This is information about your skills and experience that should be included in your answers. We’ll also include sample interview questions and some ideas to think about during your preparation.
Senior leadership
Applicants for senior leadership roles should expect questions that focus more on strategy, vision, and change. They should be prepared to talk about specific metrics showing how they positively affected company results. Candidates could also be asked hypothetical questions about what they would do if they were in a leadership role at the company with which they’re interviewing.
These top-level roles usually involve strategic oversight across multiple divisions and functions. Interviewers may want to learn more about the applicant’s interaction with their direct reports and the levels reporting to their direct reports.
