Chapter 21. Future work and final exam

Congratulations! You’re very near to the finishing line.

You’ll find that this chapter is a little different. In the first section, you’ll be introduced to some extension topics—technologies that are heavily integrated with Active Directory, but that aren’t part of the core of Active Directory:

  • AD Certificate Services (ADCS)
  • AD Rights Management Service (ADRMS)
  • AD Federation Services (ADFS)
  • AD Lightweight Services (ADLS)

By the end of this section, you’ll know where to start when it’s time to bring these technologies into your organization.

Tip

Microsoft rebranded a number of technologies during the Windows 2008 release cycle by adding Active Directory to their name. The technologies integrate with Active Directory but aren’t part of it.

There isn’t a lab section in this chapter; instead, in the second section you’ll have a final exam. Consider this your graduation exercise. When you complete the exercise, it means you’ve mastered the topics presented in the book, and, more importantly, you have the skills and knowledge to safely administer your AD environment.
