Chapter 18. Building hybrid infrastructure
Life is a moving target. Just when you get used to the way all your stuff has been working until now, something completely unexpected lands on the front lawn. As you cross the line separating this book’s practical, hands-on sections from the big-picture-overview chapters to come, expect some change. Of course, if you’ve already read the table of contents, this won’t necessarily come as a surprise.
No single book could adequately cover all the many tools AWS offers and all the countless ways you might use them. But I can at least introduce you to the kinds of things you can accomplish using some of the less-traveled AWS resources out there scattered across the cloud. So I’ve assembled a collection of services that—to some degree, at least—represent the functionality of all the others. Again, because a single month contains only so many lunches, as you work through these secondary collections, I’m won’t show you how to do these things; rather, I’ll describe what you can do. You can always find the main console or official documentation pages for any of the services I’ll discuss through simple web searches or by browsing the well-designed AWS site.
I’ll start the ball rolling with a subject dedicated to those people who just can’t fully commit: hybrid cloud solutions. We’ll explore data storage, backups, network connectivity, and resource management.
