Chapter 11. Pulling it all together with search, My Sites, and cross-site functionality
This chapter covers
This chapter is a bit unique, in the sense that we’re going to focus on technologies that span sites and site collections and we’re going to discuss site collection administrator features. The core focus of this book is on site owners, and the scenarios are based on building out a singular site. This chapter introduces you to concepts for functionality that will span sites and can be configured if you’re a site collection administrator. The first section focuses on Search. The second focuses on cross-site functionality, which is something you can do as a site owner of many sites. The third part focuses on site collection administrator capabilities. We’ll finish it off by discussing My Site functionality. You won’t build out full scenarios for all of these items, but we will use the scenarios that you’ve already built to help you get an idea of how each of these new features you’re learning could be used to enhance those sites.
One of the core features that you need to understand when working with SharePoint is search. Search is a critical mechanism that’s used for finding information. Depending on which edition of SharePoint you have, search comes with many different options.
