Chapter 14. Best practice compliance with Policy-Based Management
With each new release of SQL Server introducing more features and basic administration tasks becoming either redundant or automated, the term database administrator is becoming ambiguous and, in some cases, misleading. In my blog post from August 2009 titled “The Great DBA Schism,” available at http://bit.ly/ltajQf, I discussed the need for SQL Server professionals to develop their skills in a particular product area, describing four different groups of DBAs indicating their mastery of the product. This chapter focuses on a number of SQL Server features used by one of those groups, enterprise DBAs, for proactive administration of a large number of servers.
