I like using public transport and use it on a regular basis (not a given thing in Iceland); I can read a book, space out and think about a problem, work a little bit and do a lot of other activities I can’t do if I’m the one driving a car in traffic. I know I don’t share this fondness with everyone: many people dislike using public transport and one constant complaint is how late the public transport system is.
In my experience, it actually isn’t that late. I believe you’re just more likely to remember the times where you’re freezing your toes off in the middle of winter because the bus is late or when you’re late to a meeting and the bus is making you arrive even later. Yes, those toe-freezing delays can be irritating when they happen.
Not all public transport is focused on punctuality. I know that in rural areas of some countries, for example countries in West Africa, some buses don’t have a timetable. They don’t drive until the bus is full. That’s what you can expect from the public transport and from an environmental point of view that’s pretty nice if society can plan itself around it.
