The internet is no longer only for connecting humans to systems that are housed in and served from data centers. Today, billions of devices are connected to the internet, allowing them to be monitored and even controlled by other connected entities. The home-automation market alone, which represents a tiny portion of the connected devices that make up the Internet of Things (IoT), is estimated to be a $53 billion market by 2022.[5]
