An API design pattern is a reusable solution structure for designing API interfaces and interactions. Reusing patterns helps teams find consistent components and avoid repeating design decisions. section 1.5.1
API patterns support an organizational design workflow by enabling teams to:
- Discover and reuse API components, schemas, and resource models from shared API definitions. section 1.5.1 section 1.7
- Capture newly discovered patterns and style-guide gaps during API reviews. section 5.2.6
- Translate agreed patterns into style-guide guidance and API linting rules where automation is appropriate. section 5.2.6
From review finding to reusable guidance
An API review reveals that designers handle an element inconsistently. The facilitator records the new pattern or ambiguity, discusses it with API governance or a community of practice, and may update the style guide and linting rules. Teams can then discover the guidance alongside API definitions in shared version control. section 5.2.6 section 1.7
Figure 1.9 In APIOps, you automate API governance as much as possible to deliver better compliance and reduced lead times.
This figure situates reusable API patterns within automated governance, contrasting compliance and delivery speed when standards become part of the workflow. section 1.7
