clojure.core is Clojure’s principal public namespace: it supplies basic math operators, function-building functions, conditionals, and many other language APIs. Its definitions are available without explicitly referencing a namespace. section 1.4
Use clojure.core as the default foundation for Clojure programs:
- It contains roughly 700 function and macro definitions. section 1.4
- It includes operators, conditionals, and functions for creating and manipulating functions. section 1.4
- Other standard namespaces, such as clojure.string, clojure.test, and clojure.zippers, may require qualification or require. section 1.4
- Definitions marked alpha are usable but subject to change. section 1.4

Compare clojure.core with the other non-core namespaces shipped in the standard library. section 1.4
