Cloud Code is a Google Cloud plug-in for Visual Studio Code and IntelliJ that brings Kubernetes and cloud-native development workflows into the IDE. It integrates kubectl, Skaffold, and the Google Cloud SDK, supports minikube and Kubernetes or Anthos clusters, and exposes Google Cloud APIs and Kubernetes resources without requiring direct kubectl commands. section 12.3.3
Cloud Code supports an implementation workflow that:
- Generates deployable Kubernetes and Knative application files from prebuilt templates. section 12.3.3
- Builds container images, detects source changes, and redeploys through Skaffold. section 12.3.3
- Runs and tests Cloud Run applications locally through a minikube-based emulator or deploys them to Cloud Run and Cloud Run for Anthos. section 12.3.3
- Debugs applications at local and remote endpoints with source-code breakpoints. section 12.3.3
IDE-driven Kubernetes development
Create a Python Flask Hello World application from a Cloud Code template, select minikube as the Kubernetes context, run it, change the application message, and let code-change detection rebuild and redeploy the result. section 12.3.3
Use the workflow diagram to trace how Cloud Code runs and debugs a Kubernetes application through the IDE. section 12.3.3
