The cloud controller manager is an optional Kubernetes control-plane component for clusters configured to interface with a cloud provider. It uses control loops to maintain cloud-backed resources in their desired state. section 3.2.2
It runs as one binary containing multiple controllers and remains separate from the standard Kubernetes controller manager, allowing providers to add differentiated capabilities. section 3.2.2
Its controllers reconcile cloud-integrated infrastructure:
- Node controllers create node resources and maintain the status of nodes located in the provider. section 3.2.2
- Route controllers maintain network routes that enable communication between nodes. section 3.2.2
- Service controllers maintain provider components such as load balancers, network filtering, and IP addresses. section 3.2.2
