Cloud Interconnect extends an on-premises network to Google’s network through a highly available, low-latency connection. It supports multi-cloud, hybrid-cloud, and Anthos deployments that require network connectivity to GCP. section 10.1.2 section 10.3.2
Choose the interconnection model according to physical connectivity, provider involvement, and traffic requirements:
- Use Dedicated Interconnect for a direct physical connection between an on-premises router and Google’s network, especially when transferring large data volumes. section 10.1.2
- Use Partner Interconnect to reach Google through a supported service provider. section 10.1.2 section 10.3.2
- Compare Cloud VPN for low-volume encrypted connections and public internet connectivity for service-level TLS or mTLS communication. section 10.5 section 10.3.2
Dedicated Interconnect routing path
Provision a Dedicated Interconnect connection between a VPC network and an on-premises router in a common colocation facility. Associate a VLAN attachment with a Cloud Router; the router establishes a BGP session with the on-premises peer and adds advertised routes to the VPC as custom dynamic routes. section 10.1.2
Use the architecture figure to inspect the basic Dedicated Interconnect topology between a GCP VPC and an on-premises data center. section 10.1.2
