Use docker image ls, also shown as docker image list, to inspect locally available Docker images and their tags. It is useful immediately after tagging an image, because the output confirms that the new tag exists. section 3.9.2
Verify a registry tag
After tagging video-streaming for a private registry, run docker image list. The output should contain both tagged entries. Matching image IDs show that Docker added another reference to the existing image rather than creating a new image. section 3.9.2
Use the listing while managing local images:
- Find the image ID before removing an image with docker rmi. section 3.9.3
- Check that multiple tags refer to the same image before using --force with docker rmi. section 3.9.3
- Run the listing again after removal to confirm that the image is gone. section 3.9.3
docker tag <existing-image> <registry-url>/<image-name>:<version>
Pair the image listing with docker tag to verify the registry-qualified image name and version. section 3.9.2
