An entity-relationship (ER) model organizes entities, their attributes, and relationships in a structure familiar to relational-database teams. In marketing data platforms, it supports coherent schemas for structured data used in segmentation and campaign analysis. section 5.4.2
Use ER modeling with these boundaries in mind:
- It fits structured datasets and supports straightforward querying in lakehouse silver or gold layers. section 5.4.2
- It does not by itself organize unstructured content such as call-center transcripts or social-media text; metadata, search, or machine-learning approaches may be needed. section 5.4.2
- Dimensional modeling may simplify dashboards and cohort targeting, while data vault modeling better supports auditing and versioning in complex, evolving environments. section 5.4.2
Campaign data foundation
A team combining CRM records, email logs, and user analytics can use ER modeling to establish consistent entities and relationships before answering questions such as “target lapsed buyers” or “segment by email click behavior.” section 5.4.2
