GIF is an image format that can contain multiple raster frames, making it suitable for animation. Each frame has a display duration measured in hundredths of a second. section 9.6.2
A practical animation records a changing image state at selected moments rather than after every event. For a maze solver, thresholds based on explored pixels produce a predictable animation size across maze dimensions. section 9.6.2
A Go implementation assembles the animation by:
- Keeping a gif.GIF value with the solver. section 9.6.2
- Counting explorable pixels and registering discovered positions through a channel. section 9.6.2
- Updating the maze, drawing a paletted frame, and scaling it with a fixed aspect ratio. section 9.6.2
- Encoding all frames to an output file with gif.EncodeAll. section 9.6.2
Animating a maze solver
The solver captures approximately 30 exploration frames, displaying each for 20 hundredths of a second—about five frames per second. After finding the treasure, it appends a final frame with the solution path highlighted and holds that frame for three seconds. section 9.6.2 section 9.0
