An interactive IDE-based agent is an artificial intelligence agent embedded in a development environment, where it collaborates with a developer in real time. Unlike a chat assistant that waits for step-by-step prompts, it can manage connected tasks across a codebase with limited intervention. section 8.6
Typical assistance includes:
- Locating bugs, editing code, refactoring functions, updating deprecated APIs, writing tests, and generating patches. section 8.6
- Planning, executing, testing, and debugging multistep changes across files while maintaining context. section 8.6
Delegating a feature
A developer can ask an IDE agent to “add OAuth support.” The agent may chain edits and other actions across the project, then test and iterate with minimal prompting. section 8.6
