Kubernetes API server event source

As explained in Platform Engineering on Kubernetes

APIServerSource is a Knative Eventing resource that emits CloudEvents from events observed through the Kubernetes API server.

The Kubernetes API server event source is a Knative Eventing resource that watches Kubernetes resources and emits their events as CloudEvents. It connects cluster activity to downstream storage, routing, filtering, and metric calculation without requiring application-specific event producers. section 9.2.4 section 9.2.7

Configure the source declaratively by specifying:

  • An installed Knative event source and a service account. section 9.2.4
  • A sink, such as a Kubernetes Service, that receives the generated CloudEvents. section 9.2.4

Capture deployment activity

Configure an ApiServerSource to observe Kubernetes Events and send them to cloudevents-raw-service in the dora-cloudevents namespace. Deployment creation, modification, and deletion can then enter an event store for filtering and deployment-frequency calculations. section 9.2.4 section 9.2.7

How Platform Engineering on Kubernetes covers it

How deep it goes
Defines declarative configuration and downstream routing, but defers custom source implementation and detailed filtering.
Examples
Uses Kubernetes deployment events, an ApiServerSource manifest, a CloudEvents service sink, and deployment-frequency output.
What it assumes
Assumes a Kubernetes cluster, an installed Knative source, and a configured service account and sink.
What you can do after
Configure it declaratively to emit selected Kubernetes events as CloudEvents for downstream processing and metrics.
How it connects
Connects Knative Eventing, CloudEvents, Kubernetes Events, event stores, filtering, and deployment frequency.
