Multicluster deployment uses one admin cluster to manage multiple user clusters, providing centralized control for fleets located in the same data center. section 17.2.1
The model emphasizes operational separation and centralized management:
- Separates administrative and workload responsibilities across clusters. section 5.4
- Supports multitenant arrangements in which individual teams receive their own clusters. section 5.4
- Enables a centralized upgrade plan for the managed cluster fleet. section 5.4
- Requires a larger infrastructure footprint than standalone deployment, including at least eight nodes for high availability. section 5.4
Choose this topology when isolation, team-level cluster ownership, and centralized fleet operations outweigh the additional node and management requirements. Unlike hybrid deployment, it does not use the admin cluster to run user workloads. section 5.4 section 17.2.1
Use the architecture figure to inspect the relationship between the single admin cluster and its multiple user clusters. section 17.2.1
