Nomad task

As explained in Road to Kubernetes

A Nomad task is an executable workload specification within a group that defines how an application or container should run.

A Nomad task specifies a running container within a task group. The Nomad server schedules it, and a Nomad client runs it; once placed, it remains on that node. section 9.2.1

Task definitions use HCL and live inside group definitions, which live inside Nomad job definitions. A task declares its runtime and container image. section 9.2.5

Minimal Docker task

A Docker task can select the Docker driver and run the publicly accessible codingforentrepreneurs/rk8s-py image. Nomad can plan and run the surrounding job through its server UI. section 9.2.5

How Road to Kubernetes covers it

How deep it goes
Defines hierarchy, runtime, images, ports, and services, but defers private-image configuration and detailed UI operation.
Examples
Uses Python and Node.js container images with Docker drivers, mapped ports, and Nomad service definitions.
What it assumes
Assumes HCL, a Docker runtime, and an accessible container image while teaching Nomad's server, client, task, and job vocabulary.
What you can do after
Operate/configure Nomad tasks in HCL, run container images, map ports, and register services through a Nomad job.
How it connects
Connects Nomad jobs, task groups, Docker containers, container images, network ports, and services.
