The Paramedic Method is a sentence-engineering process for tightening important, unclear prose by exposing buried actors and actions. Use it selectively rather than on every sentence. section 5.3.2
Start with the method’s diagnostic signals:
- Bold the prepositions. Clusters of prepositions and prepositional phrases often add dead weight and bury the main point. section 5.3.2
- Notice excessive “to be” verbs alongside the prepositions; they can help reveal unclear, bulky constructions. section 5.3.2
- Separate overloaded sentences so each sentence carries one idea. section 5.3.2
From passive bulk to visible action
Replace “it was decided that the best solution was implementing it by means of a link to an existing Rust implementation” with “Ultimately, we implemented that encryption layer by linking to RustyEncryption.” The revision names the actor, action, and concrete mechanism. section 5.3.2
