A personality type groups recurring preferences or characteristics that can shape communication, decisions, motivation, and leadership. It does not determine leadership ability: introverts and extroverts can both lead effectively when they communicate, inspire, and motivate their teams. section 3.2.2
Use personality information as a practical guide rather than a label:
- Assess your own preferences to recognize leadership strengths and identify skills to develop. section 3.2.2
- Compare several leadership approaches and adapt them to different situations, personalities, and team needs. section 3.2
- Observe how team members communicate, solve problems, make decisions, and respond to motivation. section 3.2.3
- Treat assessment results cautiously: MBTI can simplify complex behavior, so consider alternatives such as the Big Five or DISC. section 3.2.3
Adapting support to a team member
If a team member is motivated by recognition and praise, provide that recognition more frequently. If assessment information suggests different working or decision-making preferences, use it to support task assignments and more collaborative team interactions without pigeonholing the person. section 3.2.3
