A tech magazine is a curated publication for technology writing, historically printed and now often digital. Unlike an open aggregator, it has a stated mission, named editors, and control over what gets published and when. section 15.3
Use this checklist before proposing an article:
- Check whether respected people in your target community share its articles and whether its readers match your intended audience. section 15.3.3
- Study its mission, categories, recent articles, author guidelines, editorial calendar, submission process, and promotion practices. section 15.3.3 section 15.3.4
- Tailor one proposal to one publication instead of sending a generic article everywhere. section 15.3.4
- Confirm originality, republication rights, expected revisions, timing, and any paywall or registration barrier. section 15.3.2 section 15.3.3
A deliberate submission
A 3,000-word technical deep dive may be unsuitable for one publication but ideal for another. Read the target publication’s related articles, explain how your piece extends them, and adapt its scope, style, length, images, and references to the publication’s requirements. section 15.3.4
The exchange is reach and prestige for time and control. Editorial publication may delay release, require substantial changes, and limit your ability to update, retitle, promote, or position the article. Editors set the rules, so submit only when the fit justifies the effort. section 15.3.2 section 15.0
