Time-to-market measures how long it takes to turn an idea, code change, or fix into something available to customers. Shortening the lead time from commit to release helps an organization respond to market demands, customer feedback, and competitive opportunities. section 10.7.2
Improve time-to-market by addressing the organizational and delivery constraints that create delay:
- Reduce handoffs and clarify ownership through autonomous, stream-aligned teams. section 10.3.3
- Replace periodic releases with continuous deployment and shorter commit-to-release lead times. section 10.7.2
- Use self-service capabilities, automation, and intelligent tooling to remove repetitive manual work and context switching. section 10.7.2 section 10.8
- Balance delivery speed with reliability by embedding monitoring and SRE practices rather than treating stability as a later concern. section 10.7.2 section 10.8
Measuring a delivery change
An organization can map its software lifecycle to expose handoffs, bottlenecks, and feedback loops, then use Python or Bash with Jenkins, GitLab, or Jira APIs to analyze deployment frequency, lead time, and failure rates. After introducing DevOps-oriented process models and automation, it can compare the results against the previous delivery pattern. section 10.3.3
