User funnel analysis

As explained in Automating API Delivery

User funnel analysis is a method for measuring progression and drop-off across ordered user journey stages.

An API sign-up does not mean a developer has made a first request. User funnel analysis measures how many users progress between defined journey stages and how long that progression takes, making drop-off visible. section 11.1.4

To measure progress from sign-up to a first sandbox request in Moesif:

  • Create a funnel under New > Users > Funnel. Set Stage 1, Signed Up, to events where Action Name Is Sign-Up. section 11.1.4
  • Set Stage 2, First API Request, to events where Event Type Is API Call and request.segments.0 Is Sandbox. section 11.1.4
  • Read the conversion percentage and average time between stages. Allow up to 10 minutes for new events to appear. section 11.1.4

Sign-up to first request

If eight users sign up and six make a sandbox API call, conversion is 75%; two have not reached the second stage. The example funnel reports an average time of 6 minutes 19 seconds for those who did. section 11.1.4

How Automating API Delivery covers it

How deep it goes
Walks through two event criteria and interprets conversion and average time, without detailing metric internals.
Examples
Uses eight sign-ups, six subsequent API callers, 75% conversion, and a 6-minute-19-second average.
What it assumes
Requires sign-up and API-call events to reach Moesif before the funnel can report their progression.
What you can do after
Apply it via Moesif to configure a two-stage funnel and identify users who have not made a first sandbox request.
How it connects
Connects sign-ups, API calls, developer journeys, and time to first hello world.
