A warning message reports a business condition that requires notification but does not necessarily stop ACH file processing. It lets the business apply leniency while preserving visibility into possible discrepancies. section 8.2
Warning messages support an ACH-processing workflow by:
- Notifying users about a condition that may need attention. section 8.2
- Allowing processing to continue when the business accepts the discrepancy. section 8.2
- Appearing alongside errors and exceptions with different handling implications. section 8.9
Incorrect control-record count
An incorrect count on a control record can produce a warning when the business chooses to process the ACH file anyway while notifying users about the discrepancy. section 8.2
Figure 8.3 Flow chart for deciding how to handle errors
Use the error-handling flowchart to decide whether an ACH condition should become a warning, exception, or error. section 8.2
