FlexConnect local authentication

As explained in Acing the CCNA Exam: Volume 2 Advanced Networking and Security

FlexConnect local authentication is a mode in which a lightweight access point authenticates wireless clients without relying on the wireless LAN controller.

FlexConnect local authentication lets a lightweight access point (LWAP) authenticate wireless clients locally instead of relying on the wireless LAN controller (WLC). Enable it per WLAN from the WLAN Advanced tab. section 21.3.3

Distinguish the related FlexConnect behaviors:

  • Local authentication moves client authentication responsibility to the LWAP. section 21.3.3
  • Local switching moves client traffic between wired and wireless networks at the LWAP without tunneling it to the WLC. section 21.3.3
  • Apply the WLAN configuration after enabling the feature. section 21.3.3
Figure 21.21 FlexConnect features can be enabled on a per-WLAN basis from the Advanced tab.

Use the Advanced-tab figure to locate the per-WLAN FlexConnect controls. section 21.3.3

How Acing the CCNA Exam: Volume 2 Advanced Networking and Security covers it

How deep it goes
Defines the authentication role and per-WLAN GUI location, but does not detail protocols, commands, defaults, or troubleshooting.
Examples
Uses the WLAN Advanced tab and a figure showing per-WLAN FlexConnect feature controls.
What it assumes
Assumes familiarity with WLAN configuration and FlexConnect while defining local authentication’s basic behavior.
What you can do after
Operate/configure local authentication by enabling FlexConnect Local Auth for a WLAN and applying the configuration.
How it connects
Connects FlexConnect local authentication with FlexConnect local switching, LWAPs, WLANs, and wireless LAN controllers.
