Float64

As explained in ScyllaDB in Action

DOUBLE is a ScyllaDB floating-point data type for storing double-precision numeric values.

DOUBLE is ScyllaDB’s 64-bit double-precision floating-point type for values such as review scores with decimal parts. It uses the standard IEEE 754 encoding. section 4.2.2

Insert and read a DOUBLE

A CQL table can store a floating-point value alongside a FLOAT value: INSERT INTO basic(text, float, double) VALUES ('floats', 123.4, 567.8); Reading the row returns 123.4 and 567.8 for the respective columns. section 4.2.2

Choose DOUBLE with its precision limits in mind:

  • Use it when a value needs floating-point representation and double precision is appropriate. section 4.2.2
  • Do not assume every decimal is represented exactly; limited precision can produce rounding errors. section 4.2.2
  • For accuracy-sensitive values such as monetary amounts, store an integer base unit or use DECIMAL instead. section 4.2.2

How ScyllaDB in Action covers it

How deep it goes
Defines size, encoding, usage, and precision trade-offs, but does not detail floating-point internals or numeric limits.
Examples
Demonstrates DOUBLE with the CQL value 567.8 and retrieves it alongside FLOAT value 123.4.
What you can do after
Apply it via CQL by inserting and selecting double-precision values, while recognizing when DECIMAL is safer.
How it connects
Contrasts DOUBLE with FLOAT, DECIMAL, and integer types for representing numeric values.
