A GitOps operator continuously monitors a running system and a source of desired configuration, usually a Git repository. When it detects configuration drift—whether from a repository change or a manual system change—it retrieves the desired state and applies it to the target environment. section 9.4.1
A pull-based deployment uses the following operating model:
- Run the operator in the same environment or cluster as the deployed API gateway. section 9.4.1
- Monitor the Git repository and the running system for differences from the desired configuration. section 9.4.1
- Pull updated configuration and apply it to the target environment when a difference appears. section 9.4.1
- Use tools such as Argo CD or Flux for Kubernetes-based deployments. section 9.4.1
Detecting and correcting drift
A manual configuration change in an API gateway creates a difference from the Git repository. The operator detects the drift and reapplies the repository state, restoring the declared configuration. section 9.4.1
