An interview team is a group assigned to evaluate candidates for one role from the job specification through the hiring decision. Each person owns a defined area, such as technical skills, communication, or culture fit, while intentional overlap protects critical areas. Give every member veto power so serious concerns surface before the team wastes more time. section 21.3.1
A practical team divides the process into distinct interviews:
- Screening checks deal-breakers, salary expectations, and location requirements. section 21.3.2
- Assessment verifies résumé details and investigates gaps or questionable claims. section 21.3.2
- Technical, communication, and culture-fit interviews test role capability, teamwork, leadership, shared values, and receptiveness to feedback. section 21.3.2
- Selling explains the company’s vision, likely exit, and potential impact, usually at the end. section 21.3.2
A repeatable hiring recipe
As the job specification is finalized, the hiring manager gathers the team for feedback, assigns ownership for each evaluation area, and keeps the same people and process for every candidate. That consistency makes hiring less dependent on exceptions, laziness, or memory. section 21.3.1 section 21.5
