.NET Framework is a large Windows software ecosystem that PowerShell uses to reach existing automation capabilities. PowerShell acts as a translator, giving administrators a consistent command interface instead of requiring direct knowledge of C#, thousands of Windows APIs, or several programming languages. section 25.1 section 25.6
Working with .NET through PowerShell involves:
- Recognizing types, classes, instances, and members as the basic vocabulary for navigating the ecosystem. section 25.6
- Using .NET classes when no prebuilt cmdlet addresses the task, then wrapping that functionality in a conventional PowerShell command. section 25.0 section 25.1
- Treating security as an operational concern: restricting PowerShell does not remove the underlying .NET and Windows functionality available to attackers. section 7.1
Small wrappers, practical results
Examples use .NET classes for mathematical operations and text-to-speech synthesis, then turn .NET functionality into reusable wrappers such as speech synthesis and an input box function. section 25.6
