Redis is an open-source, in-memory key-value data store that can support database, cache, and messaging roles. Its simple setup makes it practical for connecting an application to a separate stateful service. section 6.4.2
Deploy Redis alongside an application by handling its client tools, service address, and stored data:
- Connect other Compose services by using the Redis service name rather than a hostname, and rebuild after changing the application Dockerfile. section 6.4.2
- Treat volume removal carefully: docker compose down preserves Compose-managed mounted volumes, while docker compose down -v can destroy their data. section 6.4.2
Redis in a Kubernetes namespace
Create a dedicated rk8s-redis Namespace, then deploy Redis with a StatefulSet, one replica, a 10Gi volume claim mounted at /data, and a ClusterIP Service on port 6379. Querying Pods with kubectl get pods -n rk8s-redis separates Redis resources from resources in the default Namespace. section 8.4.4
