Tableau is a commercial business-intelligence platform for visual exploration, interactive dashboards, and governed self-service reporting. In a lakehouse architecture, it connects through standard JDBC or ODBC interfaces to query and federation engines rather than directly manipulating Iceberg tables. section 9.4.2
A governed Tableau deployment typically uses the query layer to:
- Retrieve data from Iceberg tables through engines such as Trino, Dremio, or Snowflake. section 9.4.2
- Apply shared semantic definitions and access controls before data reaches dashboards. section 4.5.1 section 9.4.2
- Support ad hoc analysis, rich visualizations, interactive dashboards, and executive reporting without duplicating governed datasets. section 4.5.1 section 9.4.2
Figure 4.6 The Hamerliva Bank architectural proposal shows how the components relate to one another.
Use the architecture proposal to trace Tableau’s position behind the federation layer and alongside other governed consumption paths. section 4.5.1
