A toolset is a collection of tools paired with structured descriptions of their capabilities and parameters. It gives an agent’s LLM a clear menu of available actions: what each tool does, which inputs it expects, and what result to anticipate. section 5.2
A toolset supports an agent workflow in three practical stages:
- Describe available tools, such as checking temperature, dimming lights, setting a thermostat, or calculating an expression. section 5.2 section 5.3
- Let the LLM choose whether to answer directly or issue one or more tool calls with named parameters. section 5.2
- Pass tool results back to the agent so it can continue solving the task or produce a final response. section 5.2 section 5.3
Making a room comfortable for sleeping
With a four-tool toolset, an agent can check the room temperature and light status, then call set_thermostat(temp=20) and dim_lights(). The returned SUCCESS results support the final response. section 5.2
A calculator toolset in Langflow
Connect Chat Input to an Agent, configure its underlying LLM and instructions, then connect a Calculator component to the agent’s tools port. The agent can delegate arithmetic to the calculator instead of relying on token prediction. section 5.3
