Relevance means connecting information or requirements directly to the task or use case. In AI prompting, it keeps responses focused on what you need rather than broad, interesting material that cannot be used immediately. section 4.3 section 5.1.1
Make a prompt more relevant by:
- State the practical situation, such as leading a small IT project without responsibility for budgets. section 5.1.1
- Explain what you want to do with the information, instead of asking for a general overview. section 4.3 section 5.1.1
- Combine relevance with clarity, conciseness, and specificity so the response has a useful target. section 4.3.1
From broad advice to usable guidance
A broad prompt such as “Act in your role as a tech manager overseeing IT projects” can produce general project-manager skills and certification suggestions. A relevant revision is: “I am not a professional project manager, but I need to lead a small IT project. I am not in charge of any financial considerations and am not tracking a budget. Which tasks should I complete to successfully manage this project?” The revised response can focus on objectives, planning, resources, task breakdown, and milestones. section 5.1.1
Relevance is not a guarantee of accuracy. Check whether the response addresses the stated situation, supplies the requested level of detail, and supports the next action. For interview practice, ask for questions and feedback relevant to the chosen role, then compare the advice with practice involving real people. section 17.3.6 section 4.3.1
