A chart title is textual content displayed with a chart to identify its subject and guide the audience toward the intended takeaway. In data storytelling, it can state the next step or call to action rather than merely label the data. section 4.5.3 section 9.3.1
Use a chart title to make the story actionable:
- State what the audience should do with the data story, such as investing in rowing and cycling. section 4.5.3
- Place next steps at the top of the chart, or alternatively on the right or below it. section 9.3 section 9.3.1
- Pair the title with a subtitle when additional context is needed. section 5.4 section 5.5.3
From message to call to action
For a chart about fake news, transform the message into an engaging title, then sharpen it into a call to action: “Your Truth Guardian: Take a Stand Against Fake News in Material and Moral Narratives.” Add it through the chart’s text parameter, optionally specifying a subtitle and font settings. section 5.5.3
