Docker Compose

As explained in ScyllaDB in Action

Docker Compose is a tool for defining and running applications composed of multiple Docker containers.

Docker Compose defines and runs applications composed of multiple Docker containers. A compose.yml file groups containers and supplies their configuration so they can launch together and communicate on a shared Docker network. section 11.1.1

Use Docker Compose here to:

  • Start Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager as separate monitoring containers. section 11.1.1
  • Connect monitoring containers to the Docker scylla-network and the ScyllaDB cluster. section 11.1.1
  • Re-create a three-node ScyllaDB cluster from a supplied compose.yaml file. section 2.1.3

Start the monitoring stack

After preparing the configuration files and saving compose.yml in the monitoring directory, run `docker compose up --detach`. Compose starts the configured containers together; the resulting output shows the Alertmanager, Grafana, and Prometheus containers starting. section 11.1.1

$ docker compose up --detach

Run the supplied Docker Compose command to rebuild the ScyllaDB cluster. section 2.1.3

How ScyllaDB in Action covers it

How deep it goes
Explains compose files, shared networking, configuration mapping, and startup commands, but does not detail Compose file syntax.
Examples
Uses compose.yml files and docker compose up --detach to launch monitoring services or rebuild a three-node cluster.
What it assumes
Assumes Docker containers, networks, configuration files, and ScyllaDB clusters are already being used.
What you can do after
Operate multi-container monitoring services and recreate a ScyllaDB cluster with docker compose up --detach.
How it connects
Connects Docker Compose with Docker containers, Docker networks, Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, and ScyllaDB clusters.
