Use eb init from an app’s root directory to start Elastic Beanstalk setup. Its interactive wizard records the deployment choices Elastic Beanstalk needs before you create an environment: AWS region, credentials, application name, platform, and secure instance access. section 12.3.6
The guided prompts establish the deployment configuration:
- Choose a region based partly on where users are located and the resulting response latency. section 12.3.6
- Provide an AWS access key ID and secret access key when the EB CLI lacks valid credentials. section 12.3.6
- Name the Elastic Beanstalk application, which can later contain environments such as staging and production. section 12.3.6
- Confirm the detected Docker setup, select a platform branch, and optionally configure SSH access for instances. section 12.3.6
Initializing a Docker application
From the project directory, run eb init and select us-east-2, enter valid AWS credentials, name the application fact-frenzy, confirm Docker, and choose Docker running on 64bit Amazon Linux 2023. The command creates the application configuration; run eb create separately to create an environment and deploy the application. section 12.3.6 section 12.6
