HTTP GET

As explained in A Pythonic Adventure: From Python basics to a working web app

The GET method is an HTTP request method for retrieving a resource from a web server.

GET is the request a browser makes when someone visits a web address. It retrieves the page at that address, such as the greeting page reached through `/hello/Erik`. section 10.0

A Flask route can accept GET requests alongside POST requests. When the browser first visits `/order`, the application displays the order form; submitting the form uses the separate POST path.

Opening an order form

Visiting `/order` sends a GET request. The route skips the POST-processing branch and returns `forms.html`, giving the visitor a form to complete.

How A Pythonic Adventure: From Python basics to a working web app covers it

How deep it goes
Demonstrates GET through Flask route conditions and form behavior, without examining HTTP protocol internals.
Examples
Uses `/hello/Erik`, `/order`, an HTML drink form, and a Flask handler that renders `forms.html`.
What it assumes
Assumes basic Python and HTML editing while introducing Flask routes, templates, and form methods incrementally.
What you can do after
Operate Flask routes that display pages on GET and process submitted form data on POST.
How it connects
Connects GET with HTTP requests, Flask routes, HTML forms, POST, and templates.
