Reproducibility makes analytical and training results repeatable by preserving the data versions, metadata, and conditions used to produce them. In an Iceberg lakehouse, snapshot-based access gives notebooks and reporting workflows stable historical views without duplicating every dataset. section 9.5.1 section 9.5.5
Reliable reproducibility depends on several architectural controls:
- Pin training or analytical reads to Iceberg snapshots so reruns use the same table state. section 9.5.1
- Capture model metadata and versioned outputs alongside the workflow. section 9.5.1
- Preserve catalog, table, and file relationships when recovering data across regions or environments. section 11.3.3
- Rewrite replicated metadata paths when copied files still reference the original storage location. section 11.3.3
Notebook-based model development
A small AI startup uses JupyterLab, PyIceberg, DuckDB, Spark, and MLflow. Engineers discover datasets through the catalog, read a chosen Iceberg snapshot, and record training metadata and outputs. The same snapshot can then support a repeatable training workflow. section 9.5.1
