What turns scattered observations into wisdom? First, loose data becomes information, then knowledge through relationships, and insight through novel connections. Wisdom emerges when a meaningful path links several insights. section 7.4.1
Developing wisdom involves two complementary habits:
- Collect the dots: gather input through experience, practice, and lively discussion with others. section 7.4.1
- Connect the dots: personally find meaningful relationships among ideas that may initially seem unrelated. section 7.4.1
A programmer’s train of thought
Pair programming can expose the difference between collecting and connecting. An expert may have a richly connected understanding but explain too few intermediate steps, while a novice struggles to keep up. Shared input helps, but meaningful synthesis remains personal. section 7.4.1
