A Kubernetes worker node is a virtual machine that belongs to a cluster and runs container workloads. Kubernetes places containers on nodes, while containerd provides the lightweight container runtime used by Kubernetes. section 8.1.3 section 1.6
Understand a node through the surrounding Kubernetes structure:
- A cluster groups the virtual machines that run Kubernetes and containers. section 8.1.3
- Kubernetes chooses which node runs a container by default. section 1.6
- Pods provide the smallest running unit for containers, and Deployments commonly create those Pods. section 8.1.3
Running a web application
When a container-based web application runs in Kubernetes, the cluster distributes its containers across virtual machines. Kubernetes selects the node for each workload, while a Deployment defines the desired Pods and a Service exposes them. section 8.1.3 section 1.6
