An early adopter begins using a new product or capability soon after its introduction. Their behavior supplies evidence about whether the initial implementation delivers real value, rather than merely confirming internal opinions. section 2.1.4
Use early adopters to evolve an engineering platform incrementally:
- Release the smallest implementation that could provide meaningful value. section 2.1.4
- Treat the first feature set as a hypothesis, then analyze adoption behavior and effectiveness. section 2.1.4
- Change priorities when evidence contradicts the planned feature list; full-featured delivery may conceal that only one or two configurations matter. section 2.1.4
Platform capability rollout
A platform team can release a basic capability to its first users, observe which configurations they actually use, and expand or redirect development accordingly instead of waiting months for a complete design. section 2.1.4
Figure 2.5 The progression of an MVP delivery process. A fully functional product does not need to be delivered at the start, but all phases should deliver some incremental value to the customer.
Shows incremental delivery as successive valuable stages rather than requiring a fully functional product at the outset. section 2.1.4
